Evelyn Gibson

FPSSA, APSSA(Vers), EPSSA(Mille-Platinum), SPSSA, EFIAP, SPSA, ARPS

I studied photography for two years at the Open Window Academy in Pretoria, South Africa, and achieved a distinction for my Portfolio at the end of the two years.

I then became involved in Club Photography and served on the Committee and as President of a couple of Clubs over the years. I am still involved in Club Photography and at present I am a member of Cape Town Photographic Society.

I have been involved in judging around the country, which brings me in contact with like-minded people who have this passion for photography. I completed the JAP workshops and have presented not only in my Region but other Regions a presentation I designed, based on the book “Looking at Photographs” by Ken Holland – “A Personal View of Appraising and Judging Photographs”, the basis of which is complementary to the JAP workshops.

I have been a member of PSSA for many years and I have achieved my FPSSA, APSSA (Vers), and EPSSA (Mille-Platinum). I have served on the Board of PSSA as Regional Director and PRO over the years and now presently I hold the position of PRO and serve as a member of the Marketing Committee.

I attained my EFIAP in 2013 – Artiste – International Federation of Photographi – number of acceptances obtained in international salons with FIAP patronage.

I am a member of the Photographic Society of America and achieved my SPSA honours for Street Photography in Mono.  I am also a member of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and achieved my ARPS in a mixed panel. 

My focus initially was on Landscape Photography but now I have developed a passion for all genres of photography. I remember a photographer once saying to me that light is the river on which technique sinks or floats. Emotion, spirit, conveying mood, atmosphere and meaning needs to be there when I capture the image. One must feel they could walk into the image and feel part of it.

Wildlife, PJ, Pictorial and People Photography, especially taking pictures of my grandchildren have now become a great passion for me.
