Ana Kaplan from Sandton Photographic Society is our January winner!
Ana, congratulations on your winning image – Lighting the Pipe
Ana says:
I had this vision of a really moody image with this aged gentleman lighting his pipe.
I captured this using a Godox AD600 pro with a gridded 60cm softbox and a black background. The gridded softbox would prevent any light spill in areas where I didn’t want light.
I purposefully slowed my shutter speed and used a 2nd curtain synch so as to be able to capture the flame on the match before the flame fired.
I did minimal processing other than converting to black and white in Photoshop.
I used my Olympus 100mm lens so as to be able to have a narrow angle of view for a tight portrait.
Our 1st runner-up is Anje Smith from Rustenburg Photographic Society with “Ek sien”
Our 2nd runner-up is Adele Smit from Ermelo Fotoklub with “Laat die stof so staan”
Thank you to the judges:
Geoff Feldon – Westville Camera Club
Marleen Le Grange – Independent
Melanie Loubser – Wildlife Photography Forum

HOW DOES THIS COMPETITION WORK?
This is a PSSA monthly competition where clubs enter their monthly Junior winner onto Photovault. Appointed judges select the winning image. The monthly winner gets displayed on the home page of our Website for the duration of the month.
For the Junior Club Competition Winner of the Month, a club representative (ideally the Chairperson) submits the club winner via Photovault at www.photovaultonline.com.
Instructions on how to upload your entry onto Photovault can be downloaded here
Frequently we do require high resolutions of these images as PSSA use them for Print Exhibitions to promote PSSA as well as showcasing the work being done around the country.
At the end of the PSSA calendar year (30 June of each year) the Junior Club Competition Winning Image of the Year is selected.
