Craig Morgan from Randburg Photo Club is our July winner!
Craig, congratulations on your winning image – Breath of the Supercell

Craig says:
“Breath of the Supercell” was an exhilarating image to capture. In June 2025, a group of us were storm chasing in Nebraska, USA, aiming to stay just ahead of a massive supercell. Our approach involved photographing the storm from safe vantage points, then quickly relocating ahead of its path as it advanced.
This particular moment unfolded as our guide urgently called for everyone to return to the vehicle since the storm had closed in faster than expected. I had my Canon R6 mounted on a tripod using an intervalometer to capture long-exposure lightning strikes. But as we rushed to safety, I grabbed my camera, switched to handheld rapid-fire mode, increased the ISO, shortened the shutter speed, and aimed at an area that had shown recent lightning activity.
Within a burst of frames, one image revealed this extraordinary lightning strike.

HOW DOES THIS COMPETITION WORK?
This is a PSSA monthly competition where authors enter their own image onto Photovault. Appointed judges select the winning image. The monthly winner gets displayed on the home page of our website for the duration of the month.
Entries for the website competition are entered by the authors themselves via Photovault at www.photovaultonline.com.
Click here to download instructions on how to upload your entry onto Photovault.
All images must be original and must not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrants certify the work as their own. The PSSA Director of Competitions has the right to ask for the RAW files.
Frequently we do require high resolutions of these images as PSSA uses them for Print Exhibitions to promote PSSA as well as showcasing the work being done around the country.
At the end of the PSSA calendar year (30 June of each year) the Website Competition Winning Image of the Year is selected.
