The goal of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) Youth Showcase is to involve the Society and its Chapters, clubs, councils, and federations in the promotion and education of photography among young people by highlighting outstanding photographs from high school age students.
The Youth Showcase is open to all students worldwide, ages 14 through 18 and attending high school or its equivalent. The Showcase is an excellent opportunity for eligible students to share their work across all boundaries and receive recognition for their efforts.
Entries are limited to eight projected images, from any one high school. The school can enter no more than two projected images from any one student. The students may enter two images in Digital and two in Prints.
There are six categories (Print & Digital). The six categories for each section are:
1. ARCH – Architecture
2. PORA – People or Animals
3. SCAP – Scapes
4. PJOU – Photojournalism
5. CCHOI – Colour Photographer’s Choice
6. MCHOI – Monochrome Photographer’s Choice
Any of the entrants receiving an award, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place or HM in a category will receive the following:
Overall 1st place winner plus Plaque “Best of the Show” 300 USD
1st place 150 USD
2nd place 75 USD
3rd place 50 USD
HM (Honourable Mention) 25 USD
All award winners will be given a PSA Digital membership which includes receiving a monthly email notice on the availability of the online PSA JOURNAL.
The PSA Youth Showcase Rules
- Entries from each high school are limited to sixteen images, eight prints in the print section and eight projected images in the projected section in six categories. (See tab for categories and their definitions)
- There are no entry fees.
- All entries from high school age students shall be submitted by the PSA sponsor representative. The sponsor or sponsor’s representative shall determine how the entries are selected and the date by which the entries are needed by the representative for submission to PSA before the showcase due date.
- A student may have no more than two prints and two projected entries.
- Any image containing a recognizable person must be accompanied by a showcase model release form. The exception to this is a photojournalism image showing crowds, spot news, sports events, or any public event. See forms tab for sample model release form.
- All projected images and prints, and all parts thereof, must be taken by the student. (No clip art, no stock images, etc.)
- An entrant’s photographic submissions must be from only one school.
- Each image must have a title. Use of “untitled” or numbering for a title is unacceptable. The maximum length of the title is 25 characters including spaces. The title cannot contain the following characters or else the image title will cause a fatal error when submitted. ( ) ! , “ . / ? _ \ = ‘ $ These characters will be added by the Print or Projected Image Coordinator as needed.
I will assist all schools with their entries and therefore I will need all Digital images and entries by 31 March 2025.
The deadline for this competition is Saturday 5 April 2025.
All Successful entrants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who participated and those who received acceptances and rewards!
For the fourth year in a row, the Youth Photographers won the top award – Best in Show in one of the two sections. But this year they won both the two top awards.
This year 39 students from 13 different schools from South Africa entered the competition. Three of the schools also entered in the Print Section.
Of the 64 Digital images entered in the competition 44 received acceptances.
Of the 20 prints entered 15 received acceptances.
Out of the six category winners the Best of the Show image is selected.
