We have two website winners this month!
The one July winner is Johan Drotsky from Bethal Photography Club who wins with his image “Deur die mis”
It was a misty and frosty morning on the farm. On these mornings you just have to get up and take pictures.
I used a 7D with a 17-40 mm Canon lens and a gradient filter to stop the sun/light areas being washed out.
The other July winner is Simon Fletcher from Rustenburg Photographic Society who wins with his image “Watcha Up to”
Well I had to go back into my records to find out when I took this photo. It dates back to Dec 2015. It was at Mankwe Dam in the Pilanesberg and it was hot even at 06h46 in the morning. I managed to get this shot of the white throated swallow on an old branch.
On reviewing the photos after the outing, I came across this specific photo in a series of 4 odd shots, which I thought was particularly interesting. You can see the swallow’s intense expression and focus on the hornet and it was obvious the swallow was not going to miss out on a potential meal, albeit a potentially dangerous insect. I was really fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to get this shot.
I used my Canon 7D MkII with 100-400mm IS II lens at f8.0, 1/1250 shutter speed at ISO400.
Our 1st runner-up is Leon Pelser fron Sasol HIghveld Photography Club with “Emanuel Cathedral”
Our 2nd runner-up is Ronel Broderick from Rustenburg Photographic Society with “Ice Queen”
Anne d’Oliveira – Camera Club of Johannesburg
Francois Venter – Midrand Camera Club
