Senior Club Competition Winners July 2022

Dirk Heyns from AFO Fotografieklub is our July winner!

Dirk, congratulations on your winning image – Die oog

Dirk says:-
The image was taken at the EFC 94 tournament on 30 May this year.

I used a R6 Canon camera and a EF 70-200 2.8 lens at 1/1000 sec, F3.2 and at ISO 8000.

I absolutely love the eye detection function of this camera, which provides a much higher percentage of usable images.

The R6 mirrorless camera is fantastic in low light conditions – even better than his more expensive R5 bigger brother – and shooting at ISO 8000 and even higher does not pose serious noise problems. I use Topaz to remove the little noise that is visible, as it does not soften the images.

Due to Covid-19 regulations that were in place, the tournament took place at the EFC High Performance Institute in Sandton with only a few spectators, making it possible for me to stand very close to the cage. The camera therefore did not pick up the mesh that always spoils images when shooting at the normal distance of around a metre from the cage.

The fighter with his eye to the camera is Cameron Saaiman, who eventually went on to win the Bantamweight championship belt.

Our 1st runner-up is Kevin Fowler from Alberton Camera Club with “The Dare”

Our 2nd runner-up is Henri le Roux from George Camera Club with “Confrontation”

Thank you to the judges:

Johan Brits – Vanderbijlparkse Fotografiese Vereniging
Ursula Bauman – Vereeniging Photographic Society
Johann van der Walt – Sandton Photographic Society

HOW DOES THIS COMPETITION WORK?

This is a PSSA monthly competition where clubs enter their monthly Senior winner onto Photovault. Appointed judges select the winning image.  The monthly winner gets displayed on the home page of our Web site for the duration of the month.

For the Senior Club Competition Winner of the Month, a club representative (ideally the Chairperson) submits the Senior club winner via Photovault at www.photovaultonline.com.

Click here to download instructions on how to upload your entry onto Photovault

Frequently we do require high resolutions of these images as PSSA use them for Print Exhibitions to promote PSSA as well as showcasing the work being done around the country.

At the end of the PSSA calendar year (30 June of each year) the Senior Club Competition Winning Image of the Year is selected.
