I had just purchased a set of Nisi Filters, from landscape photographer Hougaard Malan via his website www.landscapegear.co.za and needed to test them.
My fellow club member, Paul Samuel and I had long been wanting to do a shoot of the Strand Pavilion Jetty, this gave us that reason, we married the two ideas.
So off we went the Sunday morning, the photographic gods blessing us with a dramatic sky and optimal conditions.
Strand Pavilion is somewhat 40km away from Cape Town and this being Cape Town that meant an hour drive time, being the first time that we ventured out to the jetty, we left earlier than prescribed to allow time to find and scout the location.
The jetty, itself is an iconic photographic landmark so online research was not a problem be it via websites of other photographers or Google maps but my experience taught me that no matter how prepared you think you are, always leave room for surprises, that surprise or ah ha moment come in the form of realizing why most of the shots are from one side only.
The building on its left kills the view.
Coffee in one hand and remote trigger in the other, I took a series of images, this one being my favorite. l”

HOW DOES THIS COMPETITION WORK?
This is a PSSA monthly competition where clubs enter their monthly Junior winner onto Photovault. Appointed judges select the winning image. The monthly winner gets displayed on the home page of our Website for the duration of the month.
For the Junior Club Competition Winner of the Month, a club representative (ideally the Chairperson) submits the club winner via Photovault at www.photovaultonline.com.

Frequently we do require high resolutions of these images as PSSA use them for Print Exhibitions to promote PSSA as well as showcasing the work being done around the country.
At the end of the PSSA calendar year (30 June of each year) the Junior Club Competition Winning Image of the Year is selected.
