Congratulations to Blayne Scholtz from Port Elizabeth Camera Club
Blayne is our August winner with the image “Pale Chanting Goshawk”
Blayne says:
When the more exciting game seem to be hiding away, I generally pay more attention to birds and especially the raptors. Probably because they are easier to photograph due to their size. This Pale Chanting Goshawk was snapped in Addo on 25/7/2020. As with all these “flying” shots, you often land up looking through the viewfinder for what normally feels like an eternity, waiting for something to happen. Waiting for this “chap” was no exception. Although he did move slightly faster than he normally would have due to a car screeching to a halt next to me when he saw what I was looking at. Unfortunately or fortunately all the noise or dust or sudden stopping, seemed to startle it, which made him take flight relatively quickly. I was lucky to get a reasonable shot before he passed me and the sharpness was acceptable. This in turn allowed me to forgive the rather hasty driver. We tend to get so caught up in our little world when trying to catch that special moment and forget that we are not the only people in our world who enjoy the same thing.
Equipment and settings:
Nikon D500 1/4000, F5, ISO 280, 500mm F4
Our 1st runner-up is Ben Wicks from Centurion Camera Club with “Guardian”

HOW DOES THIS COMPETITION WORK?
This is a PSSA monthly competition where clubs enter their monthly Junior winner onto Photovault. Appointed judges select the winning image. The monthly winner gets displayed on the home page of our Website for the duration of the month.
For the Junior Club Competition Winner of the Month, a club representative (ideally the Chairperson) submits the club winner via Photovault at www.photovaultonline.com.
Instructions on how to upload your entry onto Photovault can be downloaded here
Frequently we do require high resolutions of these images as PSSA use them for Print Exhibitions to promote PSSA as well as showcasing the work being done around the country.
At the end of the PSSA calendar year (30 June of each year) the Junior Club Competition Winning Image of the Year is selected.
