Dear Member

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRO

Nearing the end of the year and as we all know, it all becomes quite hectic for all of us with EOY functions, not only in our photographic environment but in our personal and business environments. All joyous occasions with the camaraderie that comes with it and especially for the photographic environment. I am sure if we could all be flies on the wall at these functions, our ears would be buzzing with shutter speeds, f-stops, camera equipment etc., which is what photography is all about sharing our experiences and our expertise.

HAPPY QUASQUIENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY to Cape Town Photographic Society – this is the terminology referred to for a 125th Anniversary – what a wonderful achievement for the Club and PSSA wishes you another 125 years of success and enjoyment in photography.

The various divisions within our Society continue to work very hard and all the Directors and Chairpersons are putting in a lot of work ensuring that our members are kept happy and motivated. Obviously we would love to increase our membership and various methods for incentives are being explored in this avenue. Suggestions always welcome, please feel free to give us your ideas.

COMPETITIONS
Congratulations and well done to the Club winners and the website image competition for October. Club entries this month slightly down from last month, please we would like to increase this every month as it is so inspirational and inspiring to see the work being done around the country. PLEASE remember there is no competition in December but if a club meets in December, they can enter two images Senior and Junior in the January event. PLEASE also remember to put your club name in when submitting in Photovault Online and do not leave the name as Independent – scroll down in Photovault and you will see your club.

PSSA ANNUAL WEB SITE COMPETITION
Clubs will automatically now be entered into this competition if the links to their websites are on the PSSA website. Judges will now randomly be checking the websites from time to time and an overall winner will be announced as always at our Annual Congress.

Another date to remember 19-22 November – Coca Cola Dome. PSSA will not be participating this year but the event is still of great interest to all photographers.

ENSEMBLE 2015
A photographic Print Exhibition, hosted by Randburg Camera Club – 13th to 15th November at Kamaraz, The Mews, Rosebank and then moving to Bensusan Museum of Photography at Museum Africa from 18th November – another great event to support.

SALON CALENDAR
Salon Calendar to June 2016 is in its final stages of finalisation and will be published on our website soon.

FIAP FORMS
A new FIAP form for applications which closes 15 February 2016 will also be published soon on our website.

YOUTH DIVISION
PSSA recognizes that scholar photographers have unique photographic circumstances and due to their scholastic programs they often do not cope with the rigors of general club photography. Within the youth division there is assistance for scholars of school clubs and scholars attending normal clubs, to test themselves against other scholars and to achieve recognition through the Certificate of Excellence program. More information on this can be found on the PSSA website under the “Youth” tab.

Our website is a very important area for information on PSSA, please visit it regularly and encourage all members to do so.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance in whatever area of PSSA you require more info and I will direct it to the correct Division for action.

To finish, I loved this quote:  “Which of my photographs is my favourite? The one I am going to take tomorrow” – Imogen Cunningham.

Happy shooting until next month.
