Dear Member
Something to look forward to is our new PSSA website! A revamp of our current website was necessary because of our outdated Joomla template which might pose security risks if we don’t update it. Completion is earmarked for the end of July, but our webmaster is optimistic that it might be earlier.
It is always a good idea to revamp every now and again, whether it be in our own living environment, our photographic environment or in our own personal way of re-looking at various aspects of our lives that we are involved in. When did you last revamp your approach to your photography – perhaps to go back to basics or to experiment with other genres. Some food for thought.
PSSA COMPETITIONS
As always a pleasure to see the work being done around the country through the entries for the Club and Web site Winners competitions. Once again I need to ask the responsible persons who enter the Club Winners to pay particular attention to two things:
1. WHEN ENTERING IN PHOTOVAULT, YOU MUST CHANGE “INDEPENDENT” TO YOUR CLUB NAME.
It is an honour to see the images published on the Web and it is important that the name of the winning Club is correctly referenced.
2. Also PLEASE DO NOT ADD TEXT OR WATERMARKS TO YOUR IMAGES – this unfortunately causes huge problems.
Thank you and please keep entering, only two months left of this year and then the overall winners for 2015/2016 will be announced at Congress. CONGRATS AS ALWAYS TO THIS MONTH’S WINNERS.
The PSSA National Inter-Club 2016 Competition, the PSSA Magazine/Flash/Newsletter Competition and the Clubs’ Web sites Competition close on 25th June – all details already on our web site – PLEASE check this out. All Chairpersons of the Clubs have already been emailed about these Competitions – we really look forward to as many of the clubs participating in these events. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
CONGRESS
Talking about Congress, hoping to see as many of our members there as possible – details on the web site. It is great to experience the cammeraderie that exists at the Congresses.
HONOURS
Getting close again to the closing date for the second applications for the year – 25 June. Jill, Chairperson of the Honours Division, has written a very good informative article which will be in the latest Magazine – Image. Please read this as it gives some very important tips and information when applying for your honours.
Still on Honours – SERVICE AWARDS – There are now more levels of Service awards – for full details of the awards now available, please check this out in the Service Awards Document under Honours information on our web site.
ELECTION OF THE NATIONAL DIRECTORS FOR THE BOARD OF PSSA
It is that time again for nominations and voting to take place and you will be getting notice about the procedures very shortly. It is VERY IMPORTANT as a member of PSSA to use your vote. The Directors of the Board are the people running the Society in their various portfolios and your vote is important as a member of the Society. Remember the Society belongs to you as members, not to the Directors, therefore use this opportunity to nominate and vote for your candidates to fill the various positions on the Board. Voting and nominating seems to be the buzz words in our country at the moment so PSSA is having to join this trend for the Society at this moment in time.
OUR MAGAZINE – IMAGE
At the time of going to press the Magazine should be in the final processes of printing and posting. Once again, we cannot guarantee the state of our postal service, yet again. THANK YOU to all who communicated with me regarding their status in connection with the Magazine, it was positive and hopefully sorted out some errors with regards to addresses etc. This edition of Image really looks great and the last Honours Panels achieved are a pleasure to view and admire.
Keep up all the good work in photography, keep promoting PSSA through your Clubs etc., keep entering the Salons and all our competitions but most important enjoy this hobby of ours.
Ansel Adams said “ When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
Till next month – happy shooting and happy focusing.
