FROM THE DESK OF THE PRO
Dear Member
As I write my Newsletter every month, I always hope that there is some exciting news to share with you and it seems to date there always is, which is very positive for PSSA.
The Club winners and web site winner this month once again an inspiration to all of us of the work being done around the country, very creative and thought provoking. Please remember to enter your club name when uploading your images and not to leave it as Independent. Congratulations to all the winners.
SCHOOL OF DIGITAL FILMMAKING
I was approached by an NGO “Big Fish” School of Digital Filmmaking, regarding some of our Photographers, who would be available during the day to give a few lectures with emphasis on various aspects of still photography to their first year students. They have a campus in Johannesburg and one in the Cape. They work completely on sponsorships and only take on their first year students when the funding is available. This for PSSA is a way of giving back to the community and also our name and logo will be on all their social media and advertising material. Please contact me if you would be willing to do this for PSSA and for the community at evelyng@mwebbiz.co.za. All their lecturers come from the business world, film making world etc., and they do it from the aspect of giving back some of their expertise in their fields of expertise. The Board of PSSA approved this involvement at their recent Board Meeting.
HONOURS
The Honours judging took place over this past week end and once again some beautiful and stunning work was displayed. It is a privilege and an honour to judge the panels put forward and the team on board certainly worked well and hard in this function. The results will be available by the end of March. Keep a look out on our web site.
Some changes to rules for the Honours – new sizing requirement for digital and prints. Digital – we will be phasing out the 1024 x 768 format. If you are still working in this format, June this year will be the last time you will be able to submit a new application, from then on all new applications must be within the HD format max. 1920 x 1080 and not more than 1.2mb. All applicants with 1024 x 768 panels still in the system will be able to complete their applications in this format. Prints – the minimum size of the print will now be A3 and the maximum size of the mount 50 cms x 50 cms. All prints must be mounted. For prints the new sizing is with immediate effect, however you can apply to the Honours division if you are already working on smaller sized prints.
SALONS
Clubs wanting to host a Salon in the 2016/2017 Salon year must contact their Regional Director immediately as this Calendar year is in the process of being finalised.
AWARDS & REGALIA
The Awards and Regalia Portfolio has been split in two parts in the meantime – medals etc., for Salons, please contact Roel van Oudheusden. For Diamond Ratings please contact Laetitia Kenny.
IMAGE MAGAZINE
Our latest Magazine, by all reports to me have reached quite a number of our members already, please if you do not receive your Magazine you must contact me at evelyng@mwebbiz.co.za. Once again some really excellent articles on Landscapes, something not to be missed.
I always like to leave with some interesting words or thought provoking words : Albert Pike says : “What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal”
Continue to give us those great images, happy shooting everyone.
