Photography became part of my life in 1972 when I joined the Shutterbugs Camera Club in Vanderbijlpark. My main interest then was ciné. Later I started exploring the realm of monochrome and 35mm. I always pushed my photographic boundaries, but it was after Freeman Patterson’s first visit to South Africa that audio visual took precedence, opening up more possibilities and more challenges.

I enjoy “out-of-the-box” thinking and photographing what is not immediately perceived. My belief is that, the more clearly you perceive and photograph what you see, the more clearly the viewer can see you, and the more you can know about yourself. Everyday, we are bombarded with massive “self-expression” in the arts, however, the more subtle communication of style, emphasis and intent often goes unnoticed and unappreciated. The ability to really see, brings great joy. Enhancing those skills increases our ability to photograph what we see and in turn we will observe our own style forming.
